Establishing a good cow-calf herd health program is a necessity for profit. Herd health program must be effective, and fit the operation and be as user friendly as possible.

Sickness in a herd revolves around the resistance level and the strength of the disease level. Many factors such as poor nutrition, shipping, storms, processing and heat stress affect an animal's resistance and when a diseased animal is added to that mix, the susceptibility of a herd is heightened.

Carl Rugg with Bovine Elite, LLC

Carl Rugg was raised on a small farm in upstate New York, where he developed an interest in the agricultural industry.

After receiving an undergraduate degree in animal science/biological science from Cornell, a Master’s degree in reproductive physiology from Colorado State University, and working for several genetic service companies, he eventually found his way to College Station, Texas, where he opened Bovine Elite, LLC.
